Credit Transfers

Transfer of Credit to Other Schools

NECF does not imply or guarantee that credits completed at NECF will be accepted by or transferable to any other college, university, or institution, and it should not be assumed that any credits for any courses described in this catalog can be transferred to another institution. Each institution has its own policies governing the acceptance of credit from other accredited institutions such as NECF. Students seeking to transfer credits earned at NECF to another institution should contact the other institution to which they seek admission to inquire as to that institution´s policies on credit transfer.

Transfer of Credit to NECF

Students who previously attended an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S.

Department of Education, may be granted transfer credit, at the sole discretion of NECF. Courses taken at the previous institution must be determined by NECF to be sufficiently equivalent to courses offered at NECF. In addition, NECF must determine that those courses are applicable to their program of study at NECF. Only courses in which the student earned a grade of C (a C- will not be accepted) or above will be considered for transfer. Students seeking to transfer credit are responsible for having official transcripts forwarded to NECF for review. Students may also be required to submit a school catalog. A student must petition for transfer credit with the Registrar as soon as possible after admission. Transfer students are required to take a minimum of 50% of their credits in residence at NECF. Normally, a student must spend their last term at NECF.

Credit by Examination / Proficiency Credit (up to 9 credits)

Students may transfer up to nine semester hours of credit awarded by examination, provided the examination does not duplicate previously earned academic credit. Credit is granted for successful completion of examinations given by the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) of the College Entrance Examination Board. CLEP is designed to help students translate non-traditional learning experience, such as on-the-job training or independent study, into college credit.

Course Waivers (up to 12 credits)

Under certain circumstances, students´ needs and program requirements differ. In such cases, a student may apply for a course waiver to take an elective in place of the requirement. This is accomplished by contacting the Registrar´s Office. The request is followed up in writing to the Vice President for Academic Affairs for approval. Once approved, the document becomes a permanent part of the student´s record.
