New England College of Finance (NECF) held its spring seminar (free to member companies) on April 26, 2007 – Principles for Calling on Small Businesses.

35 representatives from 17 financial institutions were in attendance at the one day seminar held at The Federal Reserve Bank in Boston.

The seminar, lead by Dana Sumner of Development Finance Training and Consulting, was received well by participants.

As the participant comments below indicate, the NECF seminars are not only a great way to hear from an expert, but also to share in the business practices and experiences of other member companies. Here’s what some attendees had to say about the seminar:

“The interactive elements of this program provided audience participation, and sharing of diverse view points as well as, an exchange of best practices from the more experienced lenders in the group.”

“We hope to utilize this material to create a comprehensive business account plan of action to train our branches on.”

“Through this program we are currently looking at developing a training curriculum for a small community bank.”

“This topic is new to me and I have to make only 2 calls per month. It was good to hear from those in the group that do it full time.”

The next NECF seminar is scheduled for September 10th. Topics currently under consideration are:

  • Fundamentals in Residential Mortgage Underwriting
  • Financial Projections
  • Understanding & Analyzing Business Plans
